Stewardship & The Future of Engineering
Engineers can fulfill a vital role in their communities through civic activism, proactive engagement in shaping public policy and leading in the civic realm. This segment of the Ideas Institute will explore the future of civic activism and leadership in the public realm for engineers. It is time for the engineering community to contribute to this re-examination in the spirit of technological and environmental stewardship. Increased leadership from the engineering community is needed to help society prepare for future crises.

Mike McMeekin, P.E., ENV-SP, Executive Director
Mike is one of the founders of Engineering Change Lab-USA and currently serves as chair of the Board of Directors. He took on the role as ECL-USA’s first Executive Director in August 2019.
McMeekin is also Senior Advisor to Lamp, Rynearson, an engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying firm headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. He has over 44 years of engineering experience and has played a leadership role in numerous signature projects in the Omaha area. Mike is a graduate of the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Senior Executives Institute, an advanced management, leadership, and public policy training program for current and emerging leaders of engineering and architectural firms.
Mike is deeply involved in the Omaha-area community, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Omaha by Design and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACE Mentor Omaha.
Kyle Davy, AIA, MBA
Kyle Davy's consulting practice focuses on strategy, leadership, and management development for engineering, architecture, design firms, and professionals across North America. He has assisted firms in establishing and teaching corporate universities, leadership development, project management, and coaching programs. Kyle is on the Steering Committee and is the lead facilitator for ECL-USA. He co-designed and was a principal faculty member of ACEC’s Senior Executive Institute (SEI). Kyle holds a MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Lauren Evans, PE
As a professional engineer with over 36 years of experience, Lauren Evans is a tireless advocate for the advancement of the engineering profession. In 1993, she opened Pinyon Environmental, an environmental consulting firm based in Lakewood, Colorado. Due to its outstanding reputation, Pinyon has grown from a staff of three to over 70 professional consultants, and is considered a “go-to” environmental consulting firm in Colorado. Lauren is the recipient of several ACEC Colorado honors including the President's Award, Outstanding Women in Engineering Award, and the Orley O. Phillips Award.
